Sunsets

01

The breakwater at Stonington Connecticut in the early evening with the fleet of fall sailors returning to port.
Another small breakwater or jetti protecting the swimming area.

02

03

Almost Down.
Burning through some low clouds on the horizon.

04

05

Touching the water as more boats return to the protection of the harbor.
Halfway below the horizon.

06

07

Almost gone.
One more second to go.

08

09

Down below the breakwater.
Beautiful colors.

10

11

A few stragglers waiting until the last minute to return. Who wouldn't?
Almost time to return home.

14

The clouds cleared during a storm just long enough to see the sunset while driving over the bridge on the way home from Newport Rhode Island.
More sunset on Route 6 West in Rhode Island.

15

16

There's beauty to be found everywhere. Even on the Route 10 connector.
I have no idea where this is.

17

18

Passing the resevoirs in Scituate Rhode Island.
This is a plesasnt stretch of road any time of day, any time of year.

19

20

No don't pull over and park... That would be stupid. Just keep driving and taking pictures through the truck windows.

21

Heading back into the hills on the way home from Providence.
When will they bury all of these wires?

22

23

A great October Sunset in progress.
Where could this be? Jurrasic Park? Are those eyes?.

25

Back to the beach, to watch a sunset from the east, or ocean, side of the island.
The sunsets are not as dramatic on the ocean side of the island but they can be very soothing.

26

27

There's still time to get to the bay in case you change your mind. we'll do that in just a minute.

October 30, 1999

Just in time to see it dip below the horizon. There's no clouds on the horizon so this is a very mellow sunset.

28

29

You can see the lights in Toms River across the bay and to the south.
Back to the beach for the last bit of twilight.

30

31

Nice light cloud cover. Plenty of pastel colors.

October 31, 1999

Looking south from the bay beach, Ocean Beach new Jersey.

32

33

This is one of my favorites. Looking west. This sunset changed so drastically from beginning to end that you wouln't think it was the same day.
Just starting to pick up a little red.

34

35

Notice the water? The wind was very strong out of the west that day. The wind blown clouds behave like the glass fragments in a kaleidoscope.
Here's the last of the yellow and orange about to disappear.

36

37

As the sun gets lower, reds and blues take over. We now gots da blues wit dem reds.
Lookin' south.

38

39

It's very windy and damp. Mist blowing on to the lens from the bay is making the pictures seem a bit hazy or out of focus.
This looks like the clouds are vibrating.

40

41

South.
The lights have come on in Toms River at the town ball field.

42

43

Street lights on across the lagoon in Lavalette just north of the Yacht Club.
Looking back west, so as not to miss any of the minute by minute changes, we can see the lights of the Toms River Bridge, linking the southern end of the island with the main land.

44

45

Looking back south again. You can hear the swans over by the island west of the Yacht club, but you can't see them. Time for a camera that records sound bites as well.
The gulls always seem noisiest just before it gets dark.

46

47

The water has disappeared in the dark and the gulls are getting quiet. Time to call it a day.
